- Confirmation. In Methodism we believe in and promote infant Baptism and an expression and extension of God's Prevenient Grace, the grace that envelopes us before we were even concieved of by our earthly parents, cover us through infancy and carries on throughout our existence. In infant Baptism our parents, grandparents, sponsors, and our Church make vows of promise and commitment to help us grow in our faith and our spiritual walk. In Confirmation we begin the process of taking on that responsibility for ourselves, not in exclusion of those previously mentioned, but in addition. In Confirmation we begin a lifelong process of spiritual growth. As we study and learn about our Christian heritage, our protestant heritage, and our Methodist Heritage. We learn about other denominational faiths and about other faiths in general. We begin to understand that we are only part of the story. A story bigger than any one of us and bigger in fact than all of us. We are like the branches of a tree whose roots reach into the distant past and grow toward the furture. We neither have all the answers nor none of the answers. We belive in a God who is the answer and His Son who came to show us the Way. This God we seeks to know is the same God that Judaism Worships, Muslims Worship, Catholic Worship, and we Protestants Worship. There is the first lesson in Confirmation.
